Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle therapeutic system which works with the body's own self-healing and self-regulating ability. It was developed from discoveries made within the field of osteopathic medicine at the turn of the 20th century centring on a subtle rhythmic motion which occurs throughout all the tissues of the body. This motion became known as the cranial rhythm and it is now understood to be the manifestation of a primary organising principle maintaining order and health within the body. From that time, a system of manual therapy has been developed which enhances the rhythmic interactions of tissue and fluid, bringing ease and balance to the body and unlocking our innate capacity for better health. Its gentle but effective application makes it the ideal way to treat a wide range of ailments.
The cranial approach encourages an appreciation of the individuality of the client and how they are managing their health at any point in time. It reveals the scale and power of the self-healing capacity of the body and gives us as therapists an appreciation of the primary forces of life and how these forces are always doing the best they can to cope with the circumstances that the client is holding. It is non-interventionist and gentle and is suitable for a wide range of ailments even for the most frail, for babies and for the elderly.
We see Craniosacral Therapy as a tool for both healing and self-development. As teachers and practitioners we are involved in ongoing professional development. Raising client awareness and disseminating information are important aspects of our work as cranial therapists. We share an interest in both General and Family practice and we encourage the use of Cranial work for babies by offering reduced fees. Concepts and areas that interest us are embryological and human development, trauma and post-traumatic syndromes.
